On September 13th, 2018,the Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Mr. Wang Yi met with the MalteseMinisterof Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion Mr. Carmelo Abela in Beijing.
王毅表示，中马建交以来，两国关系始终发展顺畅，已成为不同幅员人口、不同文化传统、不同社会制度国家和谐共处的典范。中方高度赞赏马方将中国放在马对外关系的重要位置，在涉及中方核心利益和重大关切的问题上充分理解和支持中方正当主张。中方愿同马方做政治上互尊互信、经济上互惠互利、人文上互鉴共荣、国际上志同道合的伙伴，将“一带一路”打造成为中马全方位合作的新平台，推动中马关系取得更大发展。当前世界面临百年未有之大变局，单边主义抬头，国际规则受到挑战，中马有必要加强协调合作，共同反对单边主义和贸易保护主义，共建开放型世界经济，构建人类命运共同体。
Wang Yi expressed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malta, the relations between the two countries have always developed smoothly and have become a model for the harmonious coexistence of different populations, different cultural traditions and different social systems. China highly appreciates that Malta has placed China in an important position in Malta's foreign relations and fully understands and supports China's legitimate claims on issues involving China's core interests and major concerns. China is willing to cooperate with Malta on political mutual trust, economic mutual benefit andcivil mutual understanding for becoming like-minded partners in the international community. China will make the "Belt and Road" into a new platform for all-round cooperation between China and Malta and promote China andMalta’s relations for greater development. Today’s world is facing a major change that never existed in the past century. Unilateralism is rising, and the international rules are being challenged. It is necessary for China and Maltato strengthen coordination and cooperation, jointly oppose unilateralism and trade protectionism, build an open world economy as well as a community of human destiny.
阿贝拉表示，马中建交46年来，双方始终相互尊重、平等相待，两国友谊历久弥坚。马方非常赞赏中国长期奉行大小国家一律平等的政策，珍视同中国的友谊与合作，将继续坚定奉行一个中国政策。马方重视“一带一路”倡议，愿与中方加强“一带一路”合作，进一步拓展经贸、旅游、人文等领域合作。当前，多边主义、自由贸易遭受挑战，马方反对打贸易战，这不符合任何一方利益。马方也愿为促进欧中关系顺利发展发挥积极作用。
Carmelo Abela said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 46 years ago, China and Malta have always respected each other and treated each other equally. The friendship between the two countries has lasted for a long time. Malta greatly appreciates China's long-standing policy of equality between large and small countries, cherishes its friendship and cooperation with China, and will continue to firmly adhere to the One-China policy. Maltaalso attaches importance to the “Belt and Road Initiative” and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China to further expand cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, tourism and humanities. At present, multilateralism and free trade are being challenged among different countries. Maltaopposites to trade wars because it is not going to benefit any party. Maltais also willing to play a positive role in promoting the smooth development of EU-China relations.
会谈后，王毅和阿贝拉共同签署《中华人民共和国政府与马耳他共和国政府中期合作规划指导委员会首次会议纪要》。
After the talks, Wang Yi and CarmeloAbela jointly signed the “First Session Minutes of the Steering Committee of the Medium-Term Cooperation Plan between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Malta”.
