The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SOC) currently has 8 member states, including China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan, 4 observer countries (Belarus, Mongolia, Iran and Afghanistan) and 6 dialogue partners countries (Turkey, Sri Lanka, Armenia, Nepal, Cambodia and Azerbaijan). The SOC’s Council of Foreign Ministers signed a resolution granting Saudi Arabia and Egypt the status of dialogue partner countries. The resolution will be submitted to the highest decision-making unit of the SCO --- the Council of Heads of Member States for approval.
On June 7th, 2021, requested by Egypt, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Mr.Vladimir Norov met with the Egyptian Ambassador to China H.E.Mr.Mohamed Elbadri.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr.Vladimir Norov mentioned that this year is the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the SCO and introduced the serial anniversary activities. He also congratulated the Egyptian ambassador on the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt and wished further relationship development between the two countries.
Secretary-General Norov stated that as it enters the third decade, the SCO will continue to serve as the best platform for successfully connecting national and regional interests and developing multi-level cooperation to promote common prosperity.
Ambassador Mohamed Elbadri spoke highly of the SCO’s activities on the international stage and its rich and constructive works to ensure regional security and stability, and the well-being and prosperity of the people in the region.
He also emphasized that Egypt has good relations with all member states of the SCO and is committed to establishing cooperation and developing relations with the SCO.
The SCO has become the multilateral, comprehensive and permanent international organization with the widest and most populated area, and it is also an indispensable and important constructive force in Eurasian and even international affairs. The SCO has gone through an extraordinary development process and has made important contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
Under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, the SCO has done a lot of meaningful work in areas such as coordinating anti-pandemic, cultural exchanges, and economic and trade cooperation. The SCO is "a major innovation in the theory and practice of international relations, creating a new model of regional cooperation and making new contributions to regional peace and development."
