Mauritius is located in the south-west of the Indian Ocean and is characterized by several mountain ranges and isolated peaks. The country is divided into four regions and five municipalities, with Port Louis as its capital. The Republic of Mauritius is a highly developed capitalist country, one of the few rich countries in Africa, and is known as the "Switzerland of Africa".
2024年1月31日，中外新闻社2024寒假小记者团在毛里求斯驻华大使馆如期采访毛里求斯驻华大使王纯万阁下。
On January 31st, 2024, Home and Abroad News Press Junior Journalist delegation interviewed the Ambassador of Mauritius to China H.E. Mr. Alain Wong Yen Cheong.
王纯万大使首先向小记者介绍介绍毛里求斯国家的情况，还特别介绍小记者喜欢的渡渡鸟。渡渡鸟是仅产于印度洋毛里求斯岛上一种不会飞的鸟。这种鸟在被人类发现后仅仅70年的时间里，便由于人类的捕杀和人类活动的影响彻底绝灭，堪称是除恐龙之外最著名的已灭绝动物。大使拿着渡渡鸟的模型，认真的给小记者分享渡渡鸟在毛里求斯岛上的生态环境。小记者们争先恐后同渡渡鸟的模型合影。
Ambassador Alain Wong Yen Cheongfirstly introduced the country of Mauritius and in particular, the Dodo bird to the junior journalists. The Dodo is a flightless bird found only on the island of Mauritius. It is the most famous extinct animal after the dinosaurs as it was completely extinct only 70 years after its discovery by human beings due to human hunting and settlement. Holding a model of the Dodo bird, the ambassador shared with the junior journalists the ecological environment of the Dodo in Mauritius and the chain effects of its extinction. The junior journalists were eager to take photos with the Dodo.
很快进入采访环节，小记者问：您好尊敬的大使阁下！我们小记者能采访您感到非常高兴。您是一位出色的外交官，曾任毛里求斯社会融合和经济发展部部长、毛里求斯国家旅游局局长、公职事务部部长、环境和可持续发展部部长等职。现在您作为毛里求斯驻华大使，请问您将如何在你的任期内推动中国和毛里求斯关系健康向前发展？你认为：两国青少年将如何传承中毛建交52年来的宝贵友谊？谢谢!
In the interview session, a junior journalist asked: “Hello, Dear Ambassador! It is a great pleasure for us to have this interview with you. You are an outstanding diplomat! You have served as Minister of Social Integration and Economic Development, Director General of the Mauritius National Tourism Authority, Minister of Civil Service as well as Minister of Environment & Sustainable Development, Now as Ambassador of Mauritius to China, how will you promote the healthy development of China-Mauritius relations during your term in China? In your opinions how will the youth of the two countries carry on the valuable friendship between China and Mauritius over the past 52 years of diplomatic relations? Thank you!”
王纯万大使说:感谢你的提问!我建议：你们不但要提问，而且需要学会聆听。在你们当中，明天一定会出现国家外交官、教授、专家学者等，希望你们事务要保持非常强的好奇感，这样就能成功。也可能发明创造很多东西，让这个世界更美好。王纯万大使说，2014年至2019年，我在毛里求斯担任部长，见证了中国非同寻常的变化，中国的发展正是体现在这些变化中。如今，我作为大使来看，这些变化得益于一个为人民服务的政府。近年来中国不仅取得了脱贫攻坚的全面胜利，与此同时在生态保护、环境治理方面也取得了卓越的成绩。王纯万表示，毛里求斯在旅游、金融、房地产等行业有着巨大的发展潜力。我要把两国的优势结合起来，分享机遇、共同发展。
Ambassador Alain Wong Yen Cheongsaid:“Thank you for your question!My suggestion to you is that you shouldn’t only ask questions, but also need to learn active listening. In the future, some of you will certainly be state diplomats, professors, experts and scholars etc., I hope that you maintain a very strong sense of curiosity for everything and then you can be successful. It is also possible to invent and create a lot of things to make this world a better place.” Ambassador mentioned that as a minister of Mauritius from 2014 to 2019, I witnessed extraordinary changes in China, which showed the great development of China. Today, as an Ambassador to China, I see that these changes are realized becausethe government serving its people. In recent years, China has not only achieved a comprehensive victory in the fight against poverty, but at the same time has also made remarkable achievements in ecological protection and environmental management. He also expressed that Mauritius offers great investment potentials in tourism, finance, real estate and other industries. I want to combine the advantages of both countries and share opportunities and common development together.

Another junior journalist asked: “Hello, Dear Ambassador! After you took the Ambassador position, you have visited many cities in China, could you please tell us about your impressions of China? Thank you!”
王纯万大使说，上任毛里求斯驻华大使职位，去过中国多个城市，中国给我最深的印象就是脱贫攻坚取得全面胜利。以前我到一线城市，路上跑的大部分是自行车、摩托车，现在宽阔的大马路上各式各样的汽车川流不息。中国的成功也为可持续发展目标的成功做出了贡献。
Ambassador Alain Wong Yen Cheongsaid that as Ambassador of Mauritius to China, I have traveled to many cities in China, and the deepest impression I have of China is that China has achieved a comprehensive victory in the fight against poverty, in the past, when I went to the first-tier cities, most of the people on the road were ridingbicycles and motorcycles, but nowadays various kinds of cars on the wide roads are running freely. China's success has also contributed to the success of the Sustainable Development Goals.
小记者还就毛里求斯与中国签署《中毛教育合作谅解备忘录》符合联合国2030年可持续发展议程等话题进行交流。采访结束，王纯万大使向每一位小记者赠送毛里求斯T恤衫，并且在T恤衫签名，小记者如获至宝。大家在毛里求斯大使馆欣赏着渡渡鸟模型、聆听狂野着非洲音乐，品尝美食、举杯果汁畅饮。小记者们心情愉悦, 同毛里求斯外交官度过了一段难忘而美好的时光……
The junior journalists also exchanged views on the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Mauritius and China on Sino-Mauritian Cooperation in Education, which is in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. At the end of the interview, Ambassador Alain Wong Yen Cheongpresented Mauritius T-shirtsand signed for each junior journalist. They enjoyed taking photos with the model of the Dodo bird, listened to the passionate African music and tasted the delicious African food at the Embassy of Mauritius.
