The Republic of Congo is located in the West-centralAfrica, the official language is French. In the morning of August 4th, “Witness Friendship” Home and Abroad News Press 2016 Summer Junior Journalist Delegation visited Congolese Embassy in China. The Ambassador H.E. Mr. Daniel Owassaand other embassy officials have been waiting for the delegation in the conference room. The Ambassadors and junior journalists shook hands and greeted to each other. The ambassador hopes that we can continue our efforts to become the next generation of diplomatic envoys between both countries.
After our interesting self-introduction, the Ambassador was very happy for our excellent opening. Then, we started the interview with the first question, “Hello, Mr. Ambassador. The President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou-Nguesso visited China on July 5th, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with President Sassou-Nguesso in Beijing. The two presidents decided to enhance the Sino-Congolese relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership and to strengthen bilateral exchanges in various fields, such as culture, education, youth, women, media, intelligence, civil exchanges and cooperation to further enhance mutual understanding and friendship. In your opinions, as the teenagers in the two countries, how will we continue this traditional friendship between China and Congo? How should we promote the development of friendly relations between the two countries?”
The ambassador spoke highly of the good friendship between China and Congo: the President of Congo visited China in early July and held talks with President Xi on July 5th. After President Xi took the office, Congo was the first country he visited, this strongly proved that the relations between the two countries have been solid and well-developed. The young people of the two countries should continue this precious friendship. Although China and Congo are thousands of miles away, the young people of the two countries should take hand-in-hand friendship and build a cooperation bridge to further develop this precious friendship and again fruitful achievements from it. During the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, even though with Congolese poor and under-developed economy, it still donated $1 million USD to the Wenchuan disaster area and helped to build a school for more than 300 Tibetan children to return to school. This is an incredible evidence of the strong relationship between the two countries.
“Could you please tell us what Congolese children like to do in their spare time? How does the Congolese government ensure the children to complete primary and secondary education in Congo?” a junior journalist asked.
On Congolese education, the Ambassador said: "Congo's ten-year compulsory education system is similar to that of China, which requires all Congolese people to finish middle schools at least. If a person can’t attend up to middle schools, then he will considered against the regulation. Both private and public schools are available to the general public. However, the public school tuition is free, but the families with extra money can send their children to private schools.”
Another junior journalist asked: “Congo is a beautiful country in Central-Western Africa with charming natural landscaping and resources. Many Chinese tourists visit the country every year. Can you tell us when the best time to visit Congo is?”
The Ambassador said that “Today, you came to the Congolese embassy, it is just like coming to the Congo country. Tourism is the hot topic for young people. Congo’s four seasons are divided into two dry seasons and two rainy seasons.” The Ambassador suggested coming to visit during the dry seasons, when the climate is relatively pleasant andthe temperature is about 18C. Congo is rich in natural resources, oil, forest and a variety of minerals, it is also known as “Wood Country”. We were curious about the environment impacts of cutting down the forest trees. The Ambassador said: “Congo's reasonable access to timber will control the negative impacts on its environment, mainly affected by climate. We also have regulations to make sure the balance of using natural resources, for example, cutting down a tree will require to plant five trees. This enforcement will relied on advanced technology, and can be used satellite monitoring. This way will sound the alarm to the illegal timber trading. The most important thing is to remind people for rational development and use of forest resources.
On the embassy walls, a junior journalist saw many photos, including Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou Enlai and many other important Chinese leaders. Those photos are the evidences for China and Congo’s friendship development process. The Ambassador hopes that the junior journalists will continue the efforts of their predecessors and become the next generation of diplomatic envoys between the two countries. At the end of the interview, the junior journalists and embassy diplomats took a group photo with waving flags and lovely smiles. They said loudly: wish China and Congo’s friendship last forever! Yay!
