萧晓山大使首先向小记者介绍介绍毛里求斯国家的情况：1968年3月12日, 毛里求斯宣布独立。1992年3月改为共和制。近年来，毛里求斯在本地区积极发挥“小岛大国”作用，倡导减免发展中国家债务，推动非洲区域一体化。以小岛屿国家代言人自居，积极在气候变化等国际问题上发挥作用。
Ambassador Gaetan Michel Siew Hew Sam first introduced the junior journalists to the national situation of the country: Mauritius declared independence on March 12, 1968. In March 1992, it transitioned to a republican system. In recent years, Mauritius has actively played the role of a “small island nation with big influence” in the region, advocating for debt relief for developing countries and promoting African regional integration. Positioning itself as a spokesperson for small island states, it has taken an active role in addressing international issues such as climate change.
毛里求斯建国仅400余年，但当地社会高度融合，多元文化和谐共生。大使特别提到，即使华人仅占全国人口的2%，毛里求斯民众也会欢度中国农历春节，生动诠释了文化交融的魅力。大使还期待尽快恢复中毛直航，让更多青少年在行走中开阔眼界。
Mauritius has existed as a nation for just over 300 years, yet its society exhibits remarkable integration with diverse cultures coexisting harmoniously. The Ambassador specifically noted that even though the Chinese community constitutes only 2% of the national population, Mauritians enthusiastically celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, vividly demonstrating the charm of cultural integration. The Ambassador also expressed hope to resume direct flights between China and Mauritius, enabling more young people to broaden their horizons through travel.
聆听完大使介绍，小记者们一一用流利的英语向大使介绍自己：我叫什么？来自哪个城市、哪所学校读书？我喜欢什么？我的特长？每一个小记者表示，希望在成为两国青少年交流的友好使者。
After listening to the ambassador's introduction, the junior journalists took turns introducing themselves to the ambassador in fluent English: What is my name? Which city and school do I come from? What do I like? What are my special skills? Each junior journalist also expressed their hope to become friendship messengers for youth exchanges between the two countries.
很快进入采访环节，有小记者问：您好大使阁下！我们小记者能采访您感到非常高兴，您是一位出色的外交官，两周前您在北京人民大会堂向习近平主席递交国书，正式成为毛里求斯驻华大使。你认为：中毛两国青少年将如何传承中毛建交60年来的宝贵友谊？谢谢!
Then, junior journalists started the interview questions. “Hello Ambassador! We are so happy to have this interview with you today. As an outstanding diplomat, you formally presented your credentials to President Xi in Beijing two weeks ago, officially become the Ambassador of Mauritius to China. In your views, how will the youth of China and Mauritius carry forward the precious friendship over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two nations? Thank you!”
大使说，你提出的问题很重要，感谢你的提问! 首先我建议：两国青少年要树立了很好的价值观，树立更好的人生规则。大使表示将积极推动两国青少年交流互动，让毛里求斯被更多中国青少年了解，也希望中国青少年主动走出国门，与各国同龄人结下友谊，让这份友好代代相传。大使说，你们不但要提问，而且需要学会聆听，在你们当中，明天一定会出现国家外交官、教授、专家学者等，希望你们事务要保持非常强的好奇感，这样就能成功。也可能发明创造很多东西，让这个世界更美好。
The ambassador stated that your question is very important, and I thank you for asking it. Firstly, I suggest that young people from both countries should establish sound values and better life principles. The ambassador expressed his commitment to actively promoting exchanges and interactions between the youth of both nations, enabling more Chinese youth to learn about Mauritius. He also hopes that Chinese youth will proactively venture abroad to forge friendships with peers from other countries, ensuring this goodwill is passed down through generations. The Ambassador emphasized that while asking questions is important, learning to listen is equally vital. You may become diplomats, doctors or scientists in the future. I encourage you to maintain a strong sense of curiosity in anything you do, as this will pave the way for success. Such curiosity may also lead to inventions and creativity that make the world a better place.
有小记者问: “您好大使阁下！毛里求斯拥有多元的文化背景，优越的地理位置，安全的营商环境，是连接亚、非、欧的重要桥梁。马克·吐温曾这样说过：‘上帝先创造了毛里求斯，再模仿毛里求斯的风景创造了伊甸园’。请你谈谈毛里求斯的文化和旅游。谢谢！”
Another junior journalist asked: “Hello, Ambassador! Mauritius has diverse cultural landscapes, a strategic geographic location, and a secure business environment, serving as a vital bridge connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe. Mark Twain once remarked that ‘God first created Mauritius, then imitated its scenery to create the Garden of Eden.’ Please share Mauritius's culture and tourism with us. Thank you!”
萧晓山大使谈到，毛里求斯是个人口多元的国度，虽华人仅占2%，毛里求斯也会过中国农历春节，足见对中国文化的认同与喜爱。毛里求斯不仅仅只是有美丽的风景、美丽的自然环境，其实更多的还是文化的交融和人与人之间的联系。我们每一个人都有一种责任感，去保护自然环境，去善待我们的这个地球。
Ambassador Gaetan Michel Siew Hew Sam said that Mauritius is a nation of diverse populations. Though the community of Chinese origin comprise only 2% of its citizens, Mauritius celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year, demonstrating its deep appreciation and affinity for Chinese culture. Beyond its stunning landscapes and pristine natural environment, Mauritius thrives on cultural integrations and people-to-people connections. Each of us feels a profound responsibility to protect the nature and treat our planet with care.
萧晓山大使表示，毛里求斯在旅游、金融、房地产等行业有着巨大的发展潜力。我要把两国的优势结合起来，分享机遇、共同发展。
Ambassador Gaetan Michel Siew Hew Sam stated that Mauritius possesses tremendous development potential in industries such as tourism, finance, and innovation real estate. I aim to combine the strengths of both nations to share opportunities and pursue mutual development.
小记者还就毛里求斯与中国签署《中毛教育合作谅解备忘录》符合联合国2030年可持续发展议程等话题进行交流。
The junior journalists also discussed topics such as the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Educational Cooperation between Mauritius and China and its alignment with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
采访结束，大使为每一位小记者签名，小记者如获至宝，大家在毛里求斯大使馆欣赏着渡渡鸟模型。大使同小记者合影时，齐声高呼：中毛友谊万岁“耶”！
After the interview, the Ambassador signed for each junior journalist, who treasured the signatures like precious gems. Everyone saw the Dodo bird (Raphus cucullatus) model at the Mauritian Embassy. When taking the group photo, everyone shouted together: “Long live China-Mauritius friendship!”
