On November 4, 2026, at the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Abdulrahman Dambazau, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to China, President Wei Yan of Home and Abroad News Press attended the 66th anniversary reception of Nigeria’s Independence Day at the International Ballroom of the Beijing Marriott Hotel, with many ambassadors and diplomats. Mr. Liu Yuxi, Ambassador for Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Affairs, was invited to attend and met with Ambassador Abdulrahman Dambazau.

At 7:00 p.m., the national anthems of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China were played at the venue, and a promotional video about Nigeria was shown on the screen. Nigeria will continue to adhere to the One-China Principle, actively participate in the “Belt and Road” initiative, promote the continuous development of Nigeria-China relations, and better benefit the peoples of both countries. Ambassador Liu Yuxi congratulated Nigeria on the 66th anniversary of its independence, noting that over the 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria, bilateral relations have achieved leapfrog development. Under the strategic guidance of the heads of state of both countries, China-Nigeria relations have been elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership, with political mutual trust continuing to strengthen and practical cooperation yielding fruitful results. Ambassador Liu briefly introduced the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, expressing China’s willingness to deepen exchanges on governance experiences with all countries, including Nigeria, to jointly advance modernization efforts and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. He noted that over the past 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria, bilateral relations have achieved leapfrog development.

Ambassador Abdulrahman Dambazau delivered a speech, expressing Nigeria’s gratitude for China’s long-standing and significant contributions to Nigeria’s economic and social development, particularly the full implementation of the zero-tariff policy for Nigeria. The Nigerian side reaffirmed its firm adherence to the One-China Principle, noting that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. He also noted that the friendship between Nigeria and China has a long history, and that practical cooperation between the two countries across various fields has brought tangible benefits to their peoples. Nigeria attaches great importance to developing relations with China and is willing to strengthen exchanges at all levels, deepen cooperation in manufacturing, agriculture, energy, transportation, the digital economy, education, and healthcare, and promote further development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
