The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal borders with China and India. It is the birthplace of Buddhism, one of the three major religions in the world. Buddhism founder Sakyamuni Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal. In fact, Nepal is also one of the countries with a high happiness score. At 11 am on August 3rd, Witness Friendship" 2017 Summer Home & Abroad News Press Junior Journalist Delegation visited the Nepalese Embassy in Beijing and had an exclusive interview with the Ambassador to China, H.E. Mr. Leela Mani Paudyal.
Ambassador Paudyal delivered his credential to President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People on December 19, 2016, then he officially becoming Nepalese ambassador to China. As he walked into the meeting room, he greeted each junior journalist with warm handshakes. He first made a brief introduction about Nepal to the delegation and then he mentioned Mrs. Wei Yan's visit to Nepal and met with the former Prime Minister of Nepal, the leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Joint Marxist-Leninist) Mr. Jhala Nath Khanal. Mrs. Wei also led the junior journalist delegation to the Nepalese embassy again. From this, we can see that Home and Abroad News Press attaches great importance to Nepal. As the Nepalese ambassador to China, I deeply appreciated your support.
"Hello, Mr. Ambassador. It is our honor to have this interview with you today. Since you became the Ambassador to china, you have been many Chinese cities to promote China and Nepal's communication and cooperation in various fields, such as culture, education, technology, youth exchange, sports and so on. In your opinions, how will we continue developing the traditional friendship between China and Nepal?" a junior journalist asked.
"This is a very good question. Nepal shares the same border with China's Tibet. The friendly exchanges between young people of the two countries can promote the friendship between China and Nepal. I suggest that you must first understand the history of the two countries. 2600 years ago, Sakyamuni Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal. The Buddha was a great educator, he taught us how to create a beautiful and meaningful life. Chinese Confucius and Shakyamuni Buddha are about the same time period. One created a traditional eastern culture for more than 3,000 years, named Confucianism; another created one of the largest religions in the world, named Buddhism. The leaders of the two countries made great efforts to promote the friendly relations between China and Nepal. You have to continue this journey, learn well and pass on the China-Nepal's friendship from generation to generation." Ambassador Paudyal answered.
"Nepal is an inland country in South Asia, which is kind of far for us. As a result, we don't have deep understanding about the country. We want to ask the Ambassador, what are the advantages Nepal has? how will Nepalese government ensure the students complete their studies for elementary and high school education?" we asked.
Ambassador Paudyal said that Nepal made mandatory education into the national constitution, every child has free education. In the recent years, the government has invested a lot of resource into education. Nepal has also gone to other developed and developing countries to hire good teachers to teach our students, including hiring teachers from China. Nepal has reached 99.6% of the education level.
"The United Nations published in the world rankings of happiness index, Nepal is the country with the highest happiness score. The perfect landscape and firm belief culture make Nepalese people happy and satisfied. Could you please briefly introduce Nepal's culture and tourism to us?" a junior journalist asked the ambassador.
Ambassador Paudyal answered: Nepal is known as "the Kingdom of Snow Mountains". There are 14 peaks above 8,000 meters above sea level in the world, and Nepal has 8 of them. The year-round snow-capped Himalayas are the most appealing and well-known mountain peak. Nepal is located at the crossroads of several Asian civilizations. Hinduism, Buddhism, royal palace buildings and colorful natural resources make up the unique tourism resources in Nepal. It is also one of the countries are most suitable for trekking in the world. The number of Chinese tourists to Nepal has been increasing in the past two years. The number is expected to over 200,000 this year. Nepal attaches great importance to Chinese tourists and offers many favorable conditions and facilities to them. We hope to connect more closely with China, including airline services. Language is no longer a problem. Now many tour guides and service people in Nepal are working hard to learn Chinese language so that they can easily communicate with Chinese people.
At the end of the interview, Ambassador Paudyal invited us to watch a television program: "Living Goddess in Nepal”, introducing the Nepalese goddess, called Kumari, and their life in Nepal. This refers to the goddess of virginity dating back to the 16th century of the Malaw dynasty, which was inherited by the Shah dynasty and has always been worshiped by Hindus and Buddhist followers. The goddess symbolizes wisdom and God’s power. "Living Goddess" is believed to be the source of God's sovereignty and blessings in India as well as the spiritual cornerstone for its followers. In Nepal, everyone sincerely respects and worships the "Living Goddess" from the King to the normal citizens.
Through the interview with the Nepalese embassy, the junior journalists learned more about the mysteries of this Buddhist nation. They also presented their hand-made gifts to the ambassador with their kind wishes to Ambassador Paudyal. We all hope the everlasting friendship between China and Nepal goes on and on.
