This year marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, which is an important milestone in the history of the development of bilateral relations. During the 50 years since the normalization of diplomatic relations, the China and Japan’s relations have overcome many obstacles and achieved rapid development with remarkable achievements in exchanges and cooperation in various fields. In order to better promote the development in all fields between China and Japan in the past 50 years, "Witness Friendship" Home and Abroad News Press Junior Journalist Delegation interviewed the Consul General of Japan in Guangzhou Mr. Kamei Keiji in the afternoon of July 20, 2022. The junior journalists are taking over the "relay baton" to carry on the hard-won friendship between China and Japan.

In March 2021, he was appointed as the Consul General of Japan in Guangzhou. Therefore, he is a good friend and an old friend of China.
A junior journalist asked Consul General Kamei Keiji: “Hello, Mr. Consul General, you are such a senior diplomat. It is our honor to have this interview with you. At the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan in June 2019, the leaders of China and Japan agreed that the two countries should take the "China-Japan Youth Exchange Promotion Year" as an opportunity to actively promote various exchange visits and activities. Previously, the foreign ministers of the two countries signed the Memorandum of Understanding between Japan and China on Strengthening Youth Exchanges. In your opinion, how will Chinese and Japanese youth contribute their wisdom and efforts to maintain and further develop China-Japan friendly relations?”
He said that China and Japan are each other's important neighbors and cooperative partners, and we have extensive common interests and great cooperation potentials. He expressed that he hopes the young people of the two countries will have a deep understanding of each other's country and society, and experience each other's wonderful culture. Through face-to-face and heart-to-heart exchanges, we have forged a profound friendship, and together we will grow into the backbone of China-Japan friendship and become a true ambassador of China-Japan friendship in the future.
Another junior journalist asked: “When people are taking about a country, they are always looking for the characteristics of that country, such as unique natural sceneries and customs. For example, when people are talking about the Yellow River and Panda bears, they will know it’s China. What is in people’s mind when talking about Japan?”
Consul General Keiji asked a question back: “When you think of Japan, what do you have in your mind?” “Mount Fuji, sushi, anime… and Kyoto and Ginza…” The junior journalists answered one by one. He agreed with a smile and said “You guys are so smart!” Our consulate has successfully held Japanese Tea Ceremony experience activities and promotion events for Japanese cuisine and sake etc. I also had the honor to attend some of the promotion activities held by other groups to promote Japan in many ways. Through those activities, I made great friendships with many friends here.
Consul General Kamei Keiji also talked to the junior journalists about the educational cooperation between China and Japan. Guangdong University of Foreign Studies signed a cooperation agreement with 28 famous Japanese universities, including Sophia University, Osaka Prefectural University, and Kyoto Women's University. Japan is well-known for its educational system, this is a great inspiration for the older junior journalists in the delegation. In the 21st century, Japan has carried out educational reforms to adapt to modern development to improve the overall quality of students through social education, school education, and family education. First of all, a healthy body with full of vitality is the foundation of doing everything. The second is to adapt to the constant changing social environments and pay attention to the cultivation of collectivism and the spirit of cooperation between people. The third is to develop the consciousness of independent thinking, be good at introspection and self-discipline.
